Brad's interest, however, is not out of empathy - he is almost gleeful in being regaled with stories of Jewish corpses and suffering. You may recognize Apt Pupil as the film starring Brad Renfro, who would later die of an overdose at 25-years-old and it is heavily implied (by both The Atlantic Article and Buzzfeed) that Renfro’s frequent visits to Singer’s parties led to a lifetime of regret and guilt. This sixteen year old boy takes it upon himself to conduct a yearlong series of interviews with his elderly, seemingly retired-Nazi neighbor. Brad could have been a brilliant documentarian for the Shoah Foundation if he wasn't so darned sadomasochistic. Bryan Singers 1998 psychological thriller Apt Pupil features a sequence where 16-year-old high school student Todd Bowden (Brad Renfro) imagines his showering classmates as Jewish. Brad Renfro plays a boy who has no interest in dating girls because he only cares about the Holocaust. Neighborhood boy Todd Bowden discovers that an old man living on his block named Arthur Denker is nazi war.
